There’s a unique kind of freedom that comes with this chapter of life - one that Diane discovered as her children grew up and her role as a Mom began to change. In this personal reflection, Diane shares what it means to rediscover yourself as an empty nester, embrace travel on your own terms, and experience the world with a little more intention, curiosity and freedom.

There’s a unique kind of freedom that comes with this chapter of life - one I never fully understood until I arrived here. As a mom of two incredible adult children, I’ve shifted from being needed every moment of the day to being invited into their lives in a whole new way. And somewhere in that transition, I found something unexpected: space. Space to rediscover myself, to explore, and to fall in love with the world all over again.

I’ve always believed the world is a wonderland - but now, I get to experience it differently. Slower. Deeper. With intention. As an empty nester, travel is no longer about squeezing in moments between responsibilities. It’s about fully immersing myself in experiences, saying yes to the unfamiliar, and embracing the joy of doing things simply because I can.

I’ve developed a passion for experiencing new things - whether that’s sipping wine overlooking the ocean, wandering through charming streets in a new city, or discovering hidden gems that remind me how vast and beautiful life really is. I’ve come to appreciate the finer things, not just in luxury, but in meaning: a perfect meal, a breathtaking view, a quiet morning with nowhere to be but present.

One of the greatest gifts of this stage in life is seeing my children as adults. Traveling with them now is something entirely different - and incredibly special. I get to see the world through their eyes, their excitement, their curiosity. It’s like rediscovering everything for the first time, together but from new perspectives. There’s a beautiful balance in guiding them less and sharing more.

This season isn’t about slowing down - it’s about stepping into life in a fuller, richer way. It’s about learning how to maneuver a world that no longer revolves around raising children, and instead, embracing the opportunity to grow, explore, and live boldly.
